Bergzicht Hostel
Bergzicht hostel situated in Stutterheim, Eastern Cape was officially opened on 28 November 1973 by the then deputy director of education Mr. J .G Perry. The hostel offers good accommodation for 42 boys and 42 girls, the hostel in managed by the superintendent and two matrons offering a weekly boarding Service from Sunday Afternoon to Friday Afternoon.

MISSION STATEMENT

Based on the belief that a balanced, all-round education opens doors to a full and rewarding life, we aim to:

· Provide a sound academic foundation and to encourage each child to develop his potential to the full;

· Provide a choice of cultural and sporting activities to encourage recreation and the development of active minds in healthy bodies;

· Inculcate sound moral character based on Christian values, including traits like honesty, sincerity, empathy, compassion, tolerance, courage and faith.

· Promote the acquisition of life skills such as self-discipline, confidence, courtesy, and consideration within a co-educational, dual medium and multi-cultural environment where natural, healthy attitudes between boys and girls can evolve and where mutual understanding and respect between language and racial groups can develop.

· Provide an environment that encourages independent thinking, a positive attitude, an entrepreneurial outlook, clear decision-making and the development of communication, technical and practical skills.

PASTORAL PHILOSOPHY

Bearing in mind the underlying philosophy of the school - the education of the whole child - the pastoral area has been geared towards concern for the people of the school. It is based on the following specific objectives:

1. to care for the individual needs of staff and pupils;

2. to give general moral guidance to the school;

3. to control and discipline the school through effective leadership;

4. to involve parents, past pupils and friends of the school;

5. to reflect a positive image of the school to the public.
