St Cyprian’s School is an Independent, Anglican Girls’ School, rooted in history and traditional values but progressive and cutting edge in its approach to educating and growing girls to become effective leaders and women of tomorrow.

Founded in 1871 by Bishop Gray, the school moved premises in 1919 to the historic Nooitgedacht site on the edge of the city of Cape Town. Table Mountain provides the backdrop to beautiful buildings, fields and gardens, and the Atlantic Ocean can be seen through the fringes of the ancient oak trees that frame the campus boundaries.

An opportunity to board at High School level is an important part of the offer of St Cyprian’s School. Currently there are sixty boarders residing in Katherine House, and they represent weekly and termly boarders from further afield – Africa, Europe and the East. This mix of girls of different nationalities and from different cultures brings a highly valued and unique diversity to St Cyprian’s School.

Boarding is a rewarding and fulfilling experience, one which promotes independence and facilitates the growth of interdependence. Girls learn first-hand the skills of cooperation, collaboration and self-management. The boarding staff offer a caring and supportive environment to help each girl within the boarding family to strive to reach her goals.

A boarding school provides education for pupils who live on the premises, as opposed to a day school. The word “boarding” is used in the sense of “room and board” i.e., lodging and meals. As they have existed for many centuries, and now extend across many countries, their function and ethos varies greatly.

Fewer Distractions. Boarding school students can focus better on their studies because television, video games, phones and other distractors are limited. These young scholars usually perform better academically because they live in an environment that is conducive to learning.
