More Information

Krugersdorp High School houses approximately 100 boys and 80 girls in the two residences which have become “homes away from homes” for our learners.

Learners in the residences are encouraged to become involved in extra-curricular activities while maintaining top academic results. These young men and women are taught responsibility, accountability and dedication in an environment that develops a brother and sisterhood amongst the learners.

Educators in the residences offer guidance, advice and assistance to the learners and have a common goal in ensuring that all learners adapt to their environment.

Grade 8 – 11 learners share rooms, while Grade 12 learners have the privilege of single rooms. Homework and study sessions are supervised by staff. Academic achievers are given the privilege of studying in their own rooms. Marks are monitored per term and should learners not meet the requirements, they have to re-join communal prep.

Facilities include:

Games room (Boys’ Residence)
TV Room (both)
Swimming pool (Girls’ Residence)
Computers for residents’ use (both)

Krugersdorp High School, with its 115 year history, aims to develop well-rounded individuals and as a result encourages learners to become involved in as many cultural, sporting and academic activities as possible. Developing the leadership skills of learners is an integral element to the development of the learners. In the development of the skills, Krugersdorp High School ensures that learners are provided with opportunities to become involved with various programmes such as People to People and ENKE.

The school is affiliated to the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, along with many of the top private schools in the country. “The Foundation is of the firm belief that high impact responsible entrepreneurs will dramatically contribute to a positive economic, social and political change. The Foundation therefore identifies, selects, and invests in individuals that show potential greatness over the long-term through its Scholarship and Fellowship opportunities. The Foundation's investment approach provides access to tertiary education and entrepreneurial development. Once formal education is completed, the Foundation encourages work experience that complements personal passion, purpose and skills development. It is the Foundation's hope that Fellows will then move into areas of influence where they will effect lasting change and positive impact.”

Educators are of the firm belief that the school needs to prepare the young men and women in the classroom so that they are well-equipped to tackle the everyday problems that they may face. A boarding school provides education for pupils who live on the premises, as opposed to a day school. The word “boarding” is used in the sense of “room and board” i.e., lodging and meals. As they have existed for many centuries, and now extend across many countries, their function and ethos varies greatly.

Fewer Distractions. Boarding school students can focus better on their studies because television, video games, phones and other distractors are limited. These young scholars usually perform better academically because they live in an environment that is conducive to learning.
